Professional Summary Description: "I entered to the university of Sri Jayewardenepura in 1991 to pursue my undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences at the Faculty of Applied Sciences. I was selected to do an honors degree in Zoology and graduated in 1995. In the same year I was recruited to the Department of Zoology as a teaching assistant. In 1996 I was recruited to the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences to teach Biological Anthropology. I obtained my Master of Science degree in the year 2005 and Doctor of Science Degree (DSc) in 2008 from Primate Research Institute, Kyoto University, Japan. At present I am a Professor in Anthropology at the Department of Anthropology. In addition, I was the Directress of the Multidisciplinary Research Centre and the Chairperson of Faculty Research Committee at FHSS from 2015 ¨C 2019. Further, I was the chairperson of the Board of Study in Social Sciences at the Faculty of Graduate Studies (2016 -2019) and I am the coordinator for the Internal Quality Assurance Cell at Faculty of Graduate Studies since 2017. I am a faculty representative of the university Research Council as well.
In addition to my teaching I conduct research in many areas in Anthropology. My main research areas include primatology, forensic anthropology, skeletal biology and human variation studies. I have been listed among the 250 scientists in Sri Lanka which was done by the Europien Union. I was awarded the Presidential awards for my international research publications and also merit awards for scientific publications from the National Research Council, Sri Lanka. I have on going international joint research collaborative projects under the MoUs signed with Japan, United Kingdom and Canada. In 2014 I was awarded with commonwealth fellowship to Oxford Brooks University. I am actively participating in promoting research culture in Sri Lanka and help in organizing many research conferences in the University as well as in other institutes. Among my many research publications I have two text books published for the undergraduate students.
I am interested in Quality Assurance process and is actively involved in the University and Faculty in quality related work. I am a member of the Internal Quality Assurance Unit of the University as well as the coordinator for the Internal Quality Assurance Cell at the Faculty of Graduate Faculty. I served as the Curriculum Development Committee chairperson for three years at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and help to revise and develop curricula at the faculty. I am a member of the University Corporate Plan committee and in the team to prepare the Corporate Plan for the Faculty of Graduate Studies. I was invited as a consultant to prepare quality assurance related documents for non- state universities as well. I have worked as the Director Quality Assurance in one institute on consultancy basis. As the director I helped to prepare necessary policies, student feedback forms, student satisfaction forms and peer review forms and introduced mechanisms to monitor students absenteeism and drop out rates."
