Professional Summary Description: Milan Pol is Professor of Education and Chair of the Department of Educational Sciences, Masaryk University, Brno, the Czech Republic. He has managerial experience at the level of the faculty (as Vice-dean of the Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University, in 2007-2008 and 2010-2011, responsible for the enrolment process and development of study programmes ). He lectures on educational evaluation, educational leadership and general education. In 2009-2011 he was visiting professor at the Comenius University, Faculty of Education, Bratislava, Slovakia.
His research interest includes management, leadership and governance of educational institutions (recent projects focused on culture of educational institutions, professional path of educational leaders, self-evaluation in educational institutions, and processes of organizational learning and workplace learning processes in educational institutions). He is author or co-author of eight books and a number of texts published nationally and internationally. His focus within educational development is on management, leadership and governance of educational institutions, educational evaluation, and education for democratic citizenship (school development, self-evaluation processes, evidence-based policy making, leadership development, school-community relations, and more). He has rich national and international experience in this field, having been actively involved in a number of education development projects, mainly in the countries of Central, Eastern, Southern and partly Western Europe, since early 1990s.
For a number of years he has been involved in the processes of evaluation of higher education institutions and its study programmes in the Czech Republic (as permanent expert group member of the Czech Accreditation Commission, 1999-2010), and in the Slovak tertiary education sector (since 2010, as foreign member of the Slovak Accreditation Commission). He was involved as expert in several tertiary education development projects in the Czech Republic (such as Qualification Frameworks Development in Higher Education, and more). He was also involved in projects focusing on the quality development of tertiary institutions in Uzbekistan within the Tempus Projects Framework in 2005-2008.
