Professional Summary Description: Dr. Salim Razvi has been working as Quality Assurance Expert and Acting CEO of Oman Academic Accreditation Authority since May 2010. He is currently a Board Member of the Arab Network for Quality Assurance for Higher Education and a Member of the Association of Professional Engineers Ontario, Canada. He has the experience of working in the higher education sector in three countries (Oman, UAE and Canada) at management, quality assurance, curriculum development, teaching, and research levels of responsibility.rnrnIn Oman, Dr Razvi worked as Acting Head at the Technical Secretariat (TS) of Oman Accreditation Council since February, 2006, where he was responsible for the management of the TS and contributed to the development and implementation of the national quality management system. He was also involved with variety of quality assurance activities both nationally and at the regional level. In 2006, he was one of the winners of the Australian Universities Quality Forum (AUQF 2006) best poster award. The award is annually given to the best poster presented in the Forum which presents original and accurate scholarly work or practice.rnrnBetween 2005 and 2006, he was Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs, Musana College of Technology, Oman, where he was responsible for supervising college academic activities, monitoring the performance of teaching staff, in collaboration with the heads of departments, and supervising the implementation of quality assurance measures in academic activities. He also chaired the committee responsible for evaluating the academic programs as part of the self assessment process. rnrnPrior to that, he was Head of Department, the Higher College of Technology, Oman (2004-2005). Responsibilities included administrative duties, teaching engineering courses, supervising laboratory sessions, and chairing the Programs Assessment Committee at the college level. He was also involved in the preparation of the draft of the strategic plan for the college.rnrnBetween 2001 and 2004 Dr Razvi was Assistant Professor, UAE University. There he was heavily involved in the preparation process for re-accreditation of the Civil Engineering Program by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).rnrnOther academic positions have included Senior Lecturer at the Muscat Technical Industrial College, Oman; and Visiting Professor at the University of Ottawa, Canada, where he had previously conducted his postdoc studies. That research was sponsored by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and resulted in a design procedure that was adopted by the relevant Canadian Code.rnrnDr. Razvi obtained his M.Sc. (Engineering) in 1988, Ph.D. (engineering) in 1995 and his Master of System Science in 1998. He has been a member of the Association of Professional Engineers Ontario, Canada, since 1999. His research work in the field of structural engineering was recognized by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). He received the ASCE 2000 Raymond C. Research Prize, which is awarded every year to the author(s) of a paper published by ASCE that describes a notable achievement in research related to structural engineering and which indicates how the research can be applied.
