Professional Summary Description: Gersha Pierre has been involved in the field of Quality Assurance for over 12 years starting with her job as a Testing and Assessment Specialist with her country's Ministry of Education in 2003. She successfully held this position for four years, leading out in the implementation of assessment programmes for the nation's secondary school system and managing consultants contracted to provide specialist services. From 2007 to 2010 she was employed at the Accreditation Council of Trinidad and Tobago as an Accreditation Officer. She gained a wealth of experience at this institution, working directly with tertiary institutions seeking institutional accreditation, registration, programme approval, programme recognition and other quality services and titles. She received training and certification as a Peer Evaluator throught the Higher Learning Commission in the US, and in turn facilitated training of local peer evaluators during each of the ACTT's Peer Evaluator Training programmes. She also facilitated the ACTT's interest during site visits to many tertiary institutions for accreditation, registration, and other types of quality related visits. In 2010 Gersha Pierre left the ACTT to take up the position of Director of Quality Assurance at the University of the Southern Caribbean (USC). Her appointment marked the first time this position was established by the university. She therefore oversaw the creation and staffing of the university's first Quality Assurance and Institutional Research Department and currently manages this department along with a staff of three professionals. This private university, the oldest tertiary institution in Trinidad and Tobago, has a staff of over 450 persons and a student enrollment of over 3800 students at six campuses. Under Mrs. Pierre's tenure, the university successfully gained institutional accreditation with the ACTT for the maximum period of seven years in 2012. USC became the first private tertiary institution to gain the accreditation title on the island. One of Mrs. Pierre goals as a Quality Assurance professional is to work in other countries, among quality professionals from different backgrounds, to share her perspectives and gain further insights on how quality systems work in a variety of countries. Mrs. Pierre has adopted as her personal motto the works attributed to Aristotle "Excellence then, is not an act but a habit". She therefore believes the continuous improvement should guide all that tertiary institutions do as they seek to establish a climate and culture of quality.
