Please write a professional profile of 500 words.
Professional Summary Description: After years of experience in the quality assurance field, my efforts finally culminated in participation in the African Quality Rating Mechanism Project. AQRM was established as a quality assurance system to promote quality performance of higher education institutions. I was selected as a team leader and conducted numerous site visits to validate the self rating reports for the University of Kwazulu Natal (UKZN) and the University of Nigeria (pending). As a team leader I coordinated the preparation of evaluation reports serving as the outcome of the validation site visit to both universities.

In 2007, I was appointed by a Presidential decree to serve as the Vice President of the newly established National Authority of Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Egypt (NAQAAE). As Vice president, my responsibilities included but were not limited to, setting up institutional developmental plans, Higher Education accreditation criterion, developing Quality Assurance Systems, providing technical support and capacity building training plans for various education institutions’ staff members.

Through my work at NAQAAE, I was able to attend numerous international conferences and represent Egypt in the European Commission, bringing back a wealth of knowledge and setting up the first quality assurance standards and accreditation system in Egypt. During my second term as Vice President, I was selected to assist in establishing the first quality assurance network in Africa and was a founding member of the African Quality Assurance Network (AfriQAN), and participated in drafting the network’s constitution and served as a chair person in various African Quality Assurance conferences

In 2004, I was selected as Vice Dean of Al Azhar School of Dental Medicine. Being an active academic administrator, I became an Academic Expert at the European Commission’s ERASMUS MUNDUS and TEMPUS projects and finally was awarded a TEMPUS Joint European Project (CDJEP-32112-2004). Thought my efforts in such programs I was able to bring back home a financial support fund to assist Al Azhar’s School of Dental Medicine in developing quality assurance standards for dental education.

I began my career as a dental student at Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt. I graduated in 1981with high honors, earning a B.D.S. Degree in Dental Medicine. Eager to pursue my studies even further, I earned my Masters Degree in 1986 and worked as a lecturer and conducted medical research in various dental fields. In 1987, I received the “Egyptian Combined Supervision Scholarship” (ECSS) to pursue my PhD in the University of Pennsylvania, U.S.A. After earning my PhD degree in 1990, I returned to Egypt as an Associate Professor, then a Professor of Oral Medicine at School of Dental Medicine, Al-Azhar University. During that time, I frequently traveled to the U.S assuming the position of an Adjunct Professor of Periodontolgy and Oral Biology Department, Boston University, Massachusetts, USA

As a seasoned expert in the quality assurance field, I am keen on bringing my expertise to the Asia-Pacific Quality Network. My experience as an active participant in promoting and establishing quality assurance systems and networks in Africa will surely be of valuable benefit to APQN.
