Professional Summary Description: "I am Prof. K.R. Ranjith Mahanama, an Environmental Analytical Chemist, currently holding the position of the Dean at the Faculty of Science, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. I have completed my BSc(Hons) in Chemistry from University of Colombo and received MA, MPhil and PHD degrees in Analytical Chemistry from the City University of New York, New York, USA. I served as a post-doctoral fellow and later as a scientist to the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, University of California, Berkeley, California, USA before joining University of Colombo in 1995 as a Senior Lecturer. During my tenure as a lecturer, I have guided over 80 undergraduates in their research projects and supervised over 100 postgraduates for their MSc and PhD degrees. Currently I am supervising, 10 MPhil and PhD students in the field of Analytical Chemistry.
My management skills included five years of service as the Head of the Department of Chemistry overs seven years of experience as the Dean of the Science Faculty, University of Colombo. I am serving as a visiting lecturer for several undergraduate and postgraduate programs and extended my services as the external examiner for several degree programs in Sri Lanka. I have reviewed over 100 research papers and postgraduate dissertations both from local and foreign institutions. I have held numerous positions and served in different advisory boards.
My interest in quality assurance work dates to 1990¡¯s as a graduate teaching assistant at the Queens College of the City University of New York, New York, USA. The passion continued as an analytical chemist and I happy to say that I have inculcated the QA concepts to my
students as an academic. I have served in different capacities in quality assurance activities in higher education sector in Sri Lanka. I am keen to engage the QA activities in the region which enables me to expand my knowledge and share my experience with others.
