Professional Summary Description: "After obtaining my Ph.D degree in 1993 I started my career as a Research Fellow at the Institute Fundamental Studies, in Kandy. In 2001, I joined the faculty of Agriculture, of
Rajarata University of Sri Lanka (RUSL) as Senior Lecturer. I was the Head of the Department of Plant Sciences of the Faculty for a period of five years and subsequently I was appointed as the Dean of the Faculty, which post I held for a period of six years. During my Sabbatical leave period I worked as the Deputy Director and consultant to the World Bank funded Higher Education for the Twenty-first Century Project (HETC) where was in- charge of the University Development Grant (UDG) of the project. Again in 2015 I served as a consultant to the HETC project for a one year period. Twice I have been appointed as Director of the Staff Development Centre of RUSL. At present I am the Programme Director of the Postgraduate Degree programme in the faculty of Agriculture, RUSL.
In 2004 and 2007 I have obtained ¡°Commonwealth Fellow¡± from United Kingdom and ¡°Borlaug Fellow¡± by the Full Bright Commission and USDA respectively. Also I was given ¡°Rectors award¡± in 1988 for the best achievements in MSc Degree programme and ¡°Presidential Award¡± for research publication in 2013.
I have got vast experience in reviewing of Universities/ Institutes, and Research Institute, and programme reviews. Under the IRQUE and HETC projects (World Bank Projects). I was a member/Chair of the review teams to conduct four institutional reviews in Ruhuna University, Eastern University, Sri Lanka Sri Jayewardenepura University and on two occasions in Sabaragamuwa university of Sri Lanka. Once I have been served as an international reviewer in Bangladesh as QA Expert. Also I have done institutional review at Plant Genetic Resource Centre, Department of Agriculture under the preview of the National Science and Technology Commission (NASTEC), Sri Lanka and review of the CTHE programme of Staff Development Centre in Kotalawala Defense University, appointed by the UGC. In addition I was involved in 09 subject reviews in national universities and also was a member of grant proposal review team of University Development and Quality and Innovative grants under the HETC project. Since 2017 to date I have reviewed two Private Universities in Sri Lanka under the Ministry of Higher Education and one Programme review in a leading private university. Under the World Bank AHEAD project I have done 04 grant proposal evaluations. Also I served as reviewer to many research grant proposals."
