Professional Summary Description: "Prof. N.Shanmugalingam : Bachelor¡¯s degree in education with Sociology from University of Colombo with First Class honors. Gained post graduate training at the Ateneo de ¨C Manila University, Philippines. Doctoral research was guided by Prof. Gananath Obeyesekere, an eminent Anthropologist of Princeton University.
-Former Vice Chancellor, University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka / Senior Professor in Sociology and Founder Head of the Department of Sociology at the University of Jaffna ,Sri Lanka , dedicated the academic carrier more than three and a half decades in establishing Sociology in the University and disseminating knowledge to the community as well.
-At present ¨C Professor Emeritus in Sociology, University of Jaffna
-Visiting Professor in Sociology /Member Faculty of Graduate Studies, University of Jaffna as a senate nominee.
-Trained as reviewer and engaged as Chairman and member of Institutional Review and Program Review panels Conducted by Quality Assurance and Accreditation Council, University Grants Commission, Colombo
-Appointed as Vice Chancellor of the University of Jaffna during a difficult time (2007-2011) and successfully sustained the university system and immensely contributed to the development of higher education with social sensibility.
