Professional Summary Description: "I was the Senior Professor and Chair in the Department of Aquaculture and Fisheries of the Wayamba University of Sri Lanka and have more than 30 years of experience in administration, teaching and research. Basic degree is in Biological Sciences. Both BSc and M Phill degrees are from the University of Colombo while my PhD is from the University of Stirling, Scotland. I am currently the Emeritus Professor of Aquaculture and Fisheries at the Wayaba University of Sri Lanka.
My career began at the National Aquatic Resources Research and Development Agency where I served as Director, Inland Aquatic Resources and Head, Institute of Post-Harvest Technology. I was recruited to the Wayaba University as a Chair Professor in the year 2002 and served as the Head of the Department of Aquaculture and Fisheries and the Dean of the faculty of Livestock Fisheries and Nutrition. I have served for the universities of Colombo, Peradeniya, Ruhuna, Sri Jayawardanapura, Kaleniya, Postgraduate Institute of Agriculture, Eastern University of Sri Lanka and Ocean University in the visiting capacity in undergraduate and Postgraduate programs. Several post graduate students completed their MSc, MA and MPhill degree programs under my supervision.
I have been the Project leader, Project coordinator for several important National and Regional Projects in the area of Environmental Science, Aquaculture and Fisheries. I have served in the Board of Directors/ Governing Councils, advisory boards and committees in several National Institutions and in the editorial boards of journals. I have served in the University council and chaired the faculty curriculum Development committee and the University Academic Development, Planning, Scholarships and Ethics committee.
I am a well-recognized researcher in the areas of aquatic environment management, aquaculture and coastal zone management with 38 publications in refereed journals, more than 300 abstracts, 12 book chapters and have authored / coauthored six books."
