Professional Summary Description: "Professor Athambawa Jahfer is presently the Head of Department of Accountancy and Finance and the member of governing council of South Eastern University of Sri Lanka.
He is a senior member of the faculty at South Eastern University of Sri Lanka since 1997, having
qualified with Bachelor of Commerce Second Class (Upper) Honours (1997) from University of Colombo, Master's degree (M.Sc.) in Management (2002) from the University of Sri
Jayewardenepura and Doctor of Philosophy in Business Administration (2006) from Yokohama National University, Japan.
In addition to being an awardee of Japanese Government Postgraduate Research Scholarship (Monbukagakusho) in 2002, Professor Jahfer won the Japan Foundation Fellowship for Post-doctorate Research and joined the Faculty of Business Administration, Yokohama National University, Japan (June 2012- May 2013) for researching on financial market development, foreign direct investment and economic growth in countries of Sri Lanka and Japan.
With teaching experience exceeding 20 years in the areas of financial management, investment valuation, quantitative techniques and accounting, he has been instrumental in curriculum the transformation of many degree programmes within his institution and beyond. He pioneered postgraduate education in management at South Eastern University of Sri Lanka by devising the novel curriculum of its MBA programme. As the founder director of postgraduate unit of the faculty of management and commerce, he inspired a large number of managerial and engineering professionals in South Eastern Region of the island to pursue postgraduate studies in management.
Professor Jahfer has an unfailing research record in the fields of financial market development, capital market, investor behavior, capital market efficiency, and monetary economics and has over 45 publications published in his credit in peer reviewed journals including high impact factor journals and reputed national and international conferences. He has supervised research into a wide array of topics for PhD and MBA research projects locally and internationally. He has wide experience in editorial governance and peer reviews of local and international journals.
He has ably contributed to diverse quality assurance initiatives in higher education sector. He has chaired (2011-2012) about three panels of reviews instituted for quality assurance of academic programmes and institutional governance of higher educational institutions under Sri Lanka Institute of Advance Technology. He has also been as an active member appointed by University Grants Commission, Sri Lanka for more than 08 panels of quality reviews of academic programmes of Sri Lankan state universities since 2009. He has served for Ministry of Education and Higher Education (2018/19) as a member of review panel for reviewing the curriculum and academic governance of programs offered by non-state higher education institutes in Sri Lanka. He has been a resource person for Quality and Innovation Gant-QIG (2011 and 2012) and AHEAD (2018 and 2019) projects funded by the World Bank and reviewed number of competitive proposals for research and programme development.
He has delivered numerous technical talks in the capacity as a resource person in various curriculum and research development seminars locally and internationally.
