Please write a professional profile of 500 words.
Professional Summary Description: I am currently Senior Advisor at the European University Association (EUA) after serving as its Deputy Secretary General (2001-2009), responsible for the QA portfolio: e.g., policy positions, development of the European QA framework, leadership of the Institutional Evaluation Programme, organisation of the annual European Quality Assurance Forum, etc. rnIn my current post, I have been involved in the following activities: rn Lead author of "Trends 2010", a report based on comparative research that analyses a decade of policy change in European higher education (the then 46 Bologna signatories). rn Co-author of a report on lifelong learning in Europe based on a two-year project. rn I just finished writing a report, based on interviews, that examines internal quality processes in ten universities located in ten European countries ("Examining quality culture Part II"). This research project builds upon an initiative that I took in 2002 to launch a three-year project aimed at inciting universities to set up their QA processes. (All EUA reports are available on www.eua.be/publications). rnRecently, I was invited to write the chapter on Western Europe in Accountability in Higher Education: Global Perspectives on Trust and Power, B. Stensaker and L. Harvey (eds.), pp. 111-132, New York and London: Routledge, 2011.rnIn addition to the activities listed in Part B, I have participated in the review of two QA agencies: NVAO (Netherlands) and VLIR (Flemish Community of Belgium) and I am an ENQA-trained for the review of QA agencies. I was also in charge of the self-evaluation process and report when EUA's Institutional Evaluation Programme underwent an ENQA review successfully.rnI serve on the boards of four QA agencies (French Community of Belgium, Dubai, Portugal and Switzerland), on the international visiting committee of Université Paris 6 and the editorial board of OECD/IMHE's Higher Education and Management Journal.rnBefore joining EUA, I was Director of Development at the Centre for Higher Education Research and Information (Open University, UK), and worked on several European projects related to quality assurance in Western and Eastern Europe. I taught at a variety of US institutions (University of California, Berkeley and Davis; Stanford University; Foothill and De Anza community colleges) and held an administrative post in at Stanford University, managing the academic advising of undeclared undergraduates.rnAs a trained cultural anthropologist, I have particular interest and extensive professional and personal experience (having lived in six countries) in working across cultures.
