Professional Summary Description: Dr. Munawar S. Mirza
'Prof. Dr Munawar Mirza, a distinguished educationist having 45 years of service in the field of higher education, is former Vice Chancellor of University of Education. She started her career as lecture at University of the Punjab, earned her Doctorate in Education from the University of Georgia USA and rose to become the Director Institute of Education and Research and Dean Faculty of Education, in which positions she worked for a long time. Due to her distinguished services she was the first University Professor ever elevated to BS-22, the highest level in a six tier structure of the university teachers. Moreover, she is the first and the only Professor Emeritus in Education at University of the Punjab. In her various capacities she provided exemplary leadership in education, academic administration and financial management of the concerned institutions, initiating and managing change in academic administration, strategic planning and its implementation for institutional development, human resource development, academic reforms and innovations, resource mobilization and linkages at the national/ international levels. The manifestation of her performance is evident in the form of strengthened and sustainable institutions, systems and programs at these institutions.
Dr. Mirza is a keen and diligent researcher who has a long list of large scale commissioned research studies to her credit, has published 55 research articles and is editor/chief editor of three journals in the field of education. She has participated and contributed in more than a hundred national/ international conferences/ workshops. She has supervised more than 200 hundred master level and twenty PhD theses.
She is a well-recognized figure in the field of higher education, teacher education, academic assessment and quality assurance. At the provincial/ national levels she developed the concept and designed the Punjab Examination Commission and National Education Assessment System. She is member of the Accreditation Committee of Government of Punjab for universities and DAIs. She is the founder Chairperson of National Accreditation Council of Teacher Education which she steered from the concept to development and implementation of the whole system- developing accreditation standards, indicators/benchmarks, procedures, training and accreditation of more than 150 institutions.
Her participation at the national/ international educational institutions and organizations is very wide. She served/ is serving on governing bodies of many high level institutions, think tanks and advisory committees in the field of Education. At the international level she is Member of ILO-UNESCO Committee on the Status of Teachers (CEART), ESD Selection Committee of ACCU, UNESCO's International Network of Teacher Education Institutions on ESD.
Her excellence and contribution in the field of higher education and research have brought her recognition at the national/international levels.
