Please write a professional profile of 500 words.
Professional Summary Description: I have worked with the National Accreditation Board, Ghana since 2002 and risen to the position of Deputy Executive Secretary with additional responsibility as Head of the Quality Assurance Department. Previously, I was Head of the Accreditation Department. In these positions, I have been engaged in assessment of institutions and their programmes for accreditation. Along the line of duty, institutions have consulted me in putting their processes and presentations in right order for consideration. I also assess documentation by private HEIs applying for grant of Presidential Charter to enable them award their own degrees and advise the Board as appropriate, in addition to taking part in on-site visits.
As part of capacity-building at the Secretariat of the National Accreditation Board, I participated in a training project on ranking of higher education institutions at the Centre for Higher Education (CHE) in Gutersloh, Germany in 2010.
In order to add to my growing experience, I undertook the Graduate Certificate in Quality Assurance programme run by the University of Melbourne with specific courses in “Maintaining Quality within Institutions”, “External Quality Assurance” and “Tertiary Education Policy and Management”. I have had the benefit of attending several conferences/workshops, including those of CHEA, INQAAHE, ICQAHEA, AfriQAN, EU, DAAD and UNESCO Bamako Office. Some of these had workshop sessions which were beneficial. I made presentations at the Regional Conference on Higher Education in Africa (Bamako, 2011) and the 5th ICQAHEA in Abidjan (2012). The presentation in Bamako has been published by the Association of African Universities in “The Quality Assurance Situation and Capacity Building Needs of Higher Education in Africa, April 2012)”. The presentation in Abidjan focused on “Fitting Ghana’s Quality Assurance Activities within the Framework of the African Regional Quality Assurance System”.
In 2014, I delivered an address on the “Overview of Quality and Access to Higher Education in Africa” to the Intermediary Meeting of the International Deans’ Course Africa Part II and a One-Day Conference held at the University of Professional Studies, Accra, Ghana.
Recently, I was engaged by the African Union Commission in a team of experts on a mission to validate the self-rating by the Addis Ababa University (Ethiopia) and Botho University (Botswana) under the African Quality Rating Mechanism project. This assignment exposed me to operations of public and private establishments in comparison to what pertains in Ghana and elsewhere.
Currently, I am engaged as a facilitator/expert in the Training on Quality Assurance in West Africa (TrainIQA) project, a collaborative venture involving DAAD, National Universities Commission (Nigeria), National Accreditation Board (Ghana), National Council for Tertiary Education (Ghana) and the University of Professional Studies (Ghana) to train internal quality assurance officers of universities in Anglophone West Africa.
The foregoing engagements and experiences have brought me added value and stand me in good stead for QA consultancy and institutional quality assurance reviews/audits, especially and make me capable of working in varied cultural contexts and circumstances.
